Once you successfully log into My AmeriCorps, select “Applications” located in the left column at the top. This will allow you to complete the application. Information that must be completed includes:
- Employment History
- Skills & Experience
- Community Service
- Motivational Statement
- Criminal History
- Optional Information
References: You will be required to submit a request for at least two references to complete the reference form for you. You should select people who you know well and who are familiar with your personal background, education, employment, and/or professional skills. You should not ask a family member, peer, classmate, co-worker or friend to serve as a reference. Consider asking work supervisors, clergy, teachers, counselors, coaches, or someone else familiar with your motivation and community involvement. Information required include reference’s name, email address, title, organization, street address, city, state, zip code, phone number, work number. Phone number and work number are not required, however, all other information is required.
At the bottom you will see, “Click Here” to e-mail a reference request to the contact provided above. An email with instructions will then be sent to your reference. The email will state the following…

Once your references have responded, you will need to assign the references to your application.
- Click on “Application “
- Click on “Edit”
- Click on “References”
- Select two of the references you would like included with your application and then select “finish application”
At this point, you will need to search listings using the “Search Listings” link in the left column.
- Scroll to the bottom and click on “Search Listings”
- Select “AmeriCorps State/National” for Program Type
- Select “New York” for State
- Enter “ START” for Program Name
- Click on “START Southern Tier AmeriCorps Resource Team”
- Select “Apply Now”
You will then be taken to the certification page to certify that you are over the age of 18 and certify that all of the information you have provided is true and correct.
You will then receive confirmation that your application has been submitted.
