AmeriCorps S.T.A.R.T.: Performance Measures

Capacity Building

The START program will develop a volunteer program that provides community members with the opportunities to participate in community service and service learning opportunities through Members coordinating at least one service opportunity per month and recruiting volunteers to participate.

Members will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating service opportunities

  • Recruiting volunteers

  • Gathering volunteer data to develop a volunteer management system

  • Issuing certificates for volunteers that complete 20 hours of service


AmeriCorps Members will be placed in school districts and community agencies where they will be assigned a caseload of youth to provide sustained mentoring services for at least six months resulting in demonstrated improvements in academic engagement.

Members will be responsible for:

  • Developing a mentoring program based on the needs of the agency and clients

  • Members will work with the minimum number of students based on position, full-time – 20 youth, half-time – 10 youth

  • A minimum of 75% of students receiving services should demonstrate improved academic engagements through increases in attendance, academics, educational aspirations, a decrease in disciplinary referrals, and/or involvement in service learning activities

Disaster Preparedness

AmeriCorps Members will complete Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) through the Cattaraugus County Emergency Services and Cattaraugus County Health Department and provide preparedness training to the community.

Members will be responsible for:

  • Attending CERT training, which includes First Aid/CPR certification

  • Providing community members with preparedness education following training

  • Assist community members with developing a preparedness plan
